According to Peter Spotts, there are 2 opinions about Antarctica’s Wilkins ice shelf eroding. The first, experts in the U.S.A, Britain and Taiwan said it is a big problem because now still the amount of melted ice is little so it looks like no problem, but it means the beginning of global warming and it causes a rise in sea level. Furthermore the ice shelf is melting at a high speed. However, researchers who are in the team of Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Eric Rignot persisted in the idea that eroding of Antarctica’s ice isn’t a problem. And also they said it is good for lowering warm air and sea temperatures. And the event happened before, so we don’t need to worry about that.
But it is dangerous to have the latter’s attitude. Melting of Antarctica’s Wilkins ice shelf makes many problems in the earth, and we should try to solve these problems.
The first problem is the fact that it attacks our ecosystem. Especially, penguin, seal, and krill inhabit Antarctica. So if we neglect this problem, we lose our part of the ecosystem. And our balance of ecosystem will be broken; it also will affect the life of other animals and plants. Especially, many mountains and forests will vanish and also it breaks mountains and forests’ balance.
The second problem is that it threatens not only the ecosystem but also human’s life. The amount of extremely cold and hot weather increases because of the melting of Antarctica. And the phenomenon causes the rise of the sea level, so some land is inundated. For example, many India’ islands will be inundated in 2010. So people can’t live in this place anymore.
There are many endeavors to solve these problems. First of all, to find out how to solve the problem, we should know the cause of the problem. The reason is Freon gas and Carbon dioxide. So it is a good way to reduce use of Freon gas and Carbon dioxide; we should use bicycles and plant many trees. These ways look ordinary; but it is an easy way to solve the problem of melting of Antarctica.
There are many problems because of the melting of Antarctica. Especially, it is ecological and land damage. So nowadays many people try to solve the problem. It has been suggested that we ride a bicycle and plant trees. So through these ways, we can solve Antarctica’s problem.
